Bęc bookshop at Kin
News
Kin’s third guest bookshop is Bęc Bookshop in Warsaw. It is following Mondo Books in Tromsö and ProQM in Berlin. The selection of books from Bęc Bookshop will be available during 2026.
Bęc* Bookshop is specialising in contemporary culture and urban issues. Located in a space of 16 m² with a shop window at 65 Mokotowska Street, it is one of the smallest bookshops in Poland. They offer a rich and carefully selected range of books on architecture and urban planning, contemporary art, design, economics, philosophy, sociology, reportage, and the latest literature and poetry, in line with the mission of the foundation which is running the book shop.
Since the opening in 2009, the bookshop has organised dozens of events promoting reading and presenting the work of contemporary authors and artists from Poland. They are recognisable on the city map and appear in international guidebooks as a noteworthy bookshop with local colour – they offer a precise selection of books about Warsaw and books on the history of architecture published by local publishers, as well as regional topics.
There is also an online bookshop, which allows customers to order publications from all over the world. At Bęc Księgarnia, you can find books published by over 100 cultural institutions – they cooperate with most museums, galleries and non-governmental organisations in Poland. At the same time, they present the work of niche and independent publishers.
The aim of the Bęc Zmiana Foundation, operating since 2002 and running Bęc Bookshop, is to present the latest culture and art from Poland to the widest possible audience. In addition, they publish books in areas related to their mission and popularise knowledge about contemporary ideas motivating creative communities by publishing the nationwide free magazine NN6T www.nn6t.pl since 2003.
In the tiny Bęc Bookshop exhibitions and events, including ‘Autograph Sessions’, take place. These are intimate meetings with authors in the form of informal, unmoderated conversations. Dozens of authors have taken part in them, and interviews about their books can be listened to on the podcast channel, Bęc Radio.
*Bęc /bɛnts/ – onomatopoeia, can be understood as a sudden impact — a sharp moment of change. Like bang or bam, it signals an unexpected intervention that disrupts routine, draws attention, and opens space for a new direction.
