Artists Bella Rune and Jonas Nobel are creating a new piece on-site in the City Hall lobby, October 28–31, 2025. Visitors and passersby are invited to follow the process – and those who wish can also take part.

Masks and sculpture are used to create a physical hologram in which objects from Kiruna’s old City Hall appear. How do you haunt a place that no longer exists? The artists and participants experiment by taking on the role of ghosts, interacting with objects left behind from lost interiors.

The artists about the the art work coming to life:

“In order to create an illusion that describes a lost interior – where both our inner worlds and memories reside – we’ll spend the week experimenting with combining physical objects and “ghost” illusions, blending an old theater technique called Pepper’s Ghost with new technology. We’ll make small, portable “holograms” for mobile phones, and become “the genie in the bottle” in a larger illusion where objects from lost interiors in Kiruna are joined with the ghosts we become through mask and costume.

The artwork in the City Hall lobby is part of Bella Rune’s and Jonas Nobel’s art camp which in turn is part of their multi-year project Gold and Green Forests – Interior Farce, based on the interior of the new City Hall. They will be in residence at Kin from October 23 to November 30. The new work will remain on display in the City Hall lobby until March 2026.

The project is part of the EU initiative ICCE – Cultural Centers for Everyone.
